Bergen Carbon Solutions Welcomes Industrial PhD Candidate Iris van Dort

Bergen Carbon Solutions (BCS) is pleased to announce that Iris Josephine van Dort has joined the company as an Industrial PhD candidate through a research collaboration between BCS, the University of Oslo (UiO), and the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE).

The three-year project, funded jointly by the Research Council of Norway and BCS, will investigate how BCS' carbon materials produced from captured CO₂ can be utilized in next-generation battery technologies.

The research will focus on understanding the relationship between material structure and battery performance, with particular attention to silicon-anode and lithium-sulphur battery systems. The goal is to generate new knowledge that can help accelerate the development of more efficient and sustainable energy storage solutions.

"I am excited to join this project and help bridge fundamental materials science with real-world battery applications. BCS has developed a unique carbon material, and I look forward to exploring how a deeper understanding of its properties can unlock new opportunities in next-generation batteries." says Iris van Dort.

The Industrial PhD programme brings together industry and academia, combining the research expertise of UiO and IFE with BCS' industrial development activities.

"This project allows us to strengthen our understanding of BCS materials while building long-term collaboration with leading Norwegian research institutions, the knowledge generated through this work will be valuable both for BCS and for the continued development of sustainable battery technologies" Says Rita Glenne CTO at BCS and supervisor for the project.

We are delighted to welcome Iris to the team and look forward to following her research journey over the coming years.
